Planning and coordination for DebConf17 Open Day.

There are three projects planned for Open Day:

  • A Debian install-fest
  • Free software workshops
  • Talks and presentations about Debian and FOSS projects (software and groups)

Additionally, we should offer non-commercial projects to have booths in the Foyer during the day.

Contents

[edit] Debian Install-fest

Coordinator: <sign-up here>

Invite the community and public to bring their devices and get help to install Debian on them. We can use the Vivoir (large open space) for this. The videoteam should be able to setup video for DebConf at the same time.

TODO:

  • Draft a release form saying that we are not reponsible for any loss of data or hardware malfunction
  • Find at least 2-3 Debian geeks to be there as ressources

[edit] Workshops

Coordinator: <sign-up here>

The idea being to offer workshops teaching people to use popular free software tools.

Ideas (and potential facilitators):

  • Libreoffice Collabora?
  • FOSS graphics (Inkscape / GIMP) Pollo?
  • FOSS publishing (Scribus) Pollo?
  • GnuCash ?
  • Privacy (Tails, Tor, Bitmask, etc.) ?
  • Intro to programming abdelq?
  • Intro to git

[edit] Call for proposals

An Open Day-specific CfP should be sent out to invite people to submit their proposals for workshops and talks.

  • A Newbie's Newbie Guide to Debian

Everyone is welcome! Collège Maisonneuve is located at 3800 Sherbrooke Street E, Montreal (Quebec) H1X 2A2.

DebConf is the Debian Project's developer conference. In addition to a full schedule of technical, social and policy talks, DebConf provides an opportunity for developers, contributors and other interested people to meet in person and work together more closely. It has taken place annually since 2000 in locations as varied as South Africa, Finland, Nicaragua and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Previous Debian Conferences have featured speakers from around the world. They have also been extremely beneficial for developing key Debian software components, including the new Debian Installer, and for improving Debian's internationalization.
