DebConf15/Entertainment

From Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

There is no question that DebConf15 is primarily about Debian and for the furthering of our operating systems.

However, the conference is also there for us to forge friendships, and after long days of listening to talks, fixing bugs, and writing code, everyone can use a break. It is thus that we're offering a variety of entertainment options for you to indulge.

Contents

[edit] Sports

There's a volleyball court on site and a ball with front desk. Table tennis paddles can get borrowed from the hostel reception. We're also in talks with the rugby club about letting us on the pitch for a game of football or ultimate frisbee.

Furthermore, bikes can be rented from the hostel. Talk to reception.

There is an indoor bouldering hall not too far away from the youth hostel. If you are up for some bouldering sessions in the evening (or maybe at the daytrip day), talk to User:Bzed.

[edit] Musical instruments

In addition to any instruments you might bring, we'll be able to use a piano on-site. Details to come.

[edit] Beergarden

We'll have a permanent beergarden just outside the venue throughout the week. Of course.

[edit] Disco

The disco will be open Saturday, Tuesday and Friday night, from 20:00 till midnight. Subject to changes. We'll provide the music (somehow).

[edit] Karaoke

There is a karaoke set-up all week of DebConf15 in room Berlin&London. The list of songs is available.

Feel free to set it up, and if you are done, please clean up again. It's important that we don't get in the way of the video team.

[edit] Guitar Hero

It's not unlikely that this will happen. If you have PS/2 media, bring it. Otherwise, Frets-on-Fire with a Model M!

[edit] Folk dancing

Almost a tradition now: https://summit.debconf.org/debconf15/meeting/199/a-practical-introduction-to-english-country-dancing-leisure-time-activity/

[edit] Poetry night

Another DebConf classic: https://summit.debconf.org/debconf15/meeting/176/debconf-poetry-night/

[edit] Citizenfour screening

Cinema at DebConf: https://summit.debconf.org/debconf15/meeting/324/citizenfour-screening/

[edit] Werewolf

It's a distinct possibility you'll hear a few howls and screaming villagers at night.

[edit] Assassins

And of course, no DebConf (since 2008) without DebConf15/Assassins (provided someone organises it).

[edit] Mao

There will be Mao.

[edit] Bands

[edit] bellsparx

https://summit.debconf.org/debconf15/meeting/342/concert-bellsparx/

The band from Mannheim (close by) will be playing in the disco on Saturday night as part of our birthday celebrations. Check out their last.fm page and this text for more information.

[edit] Oktober Folk Club

https://summit.debconf.org/debconf15/meeting/343/concert-oktober-folk-club/

Following the day trip and Barbeque that night, the Munich-based band Oktober Folk Club will make your muscles twitch with jug-band blues delivered by banjo, fiddle, and washing trough. Location: our own beergarden (weather permitting). See last.fm and a (German-language) profile.

[edit] Perseides

Come with a few friends and a drink to watch the most amazing show possible on Earth.

Comet of Origin: 109P/Swift-Tuttle
Radiant: constellation Perseus

Peak Activity: Aug. 12-13, 2015
Peak Activity Meteor Count: Up to 100 meteors per hour
