DebConf10/WritingDirections

[edit] General explanation

Directions to DebConf10 are maintained in the dc10/website/directions directory of the debconf-data svn.

One page is used for each NYC entry point. The different paths to DebConf10 converge rapidly, and writing the same text on multiple page is hard to maintain. So each entry point's page in svn only contains the part specific to it, and includes snippets for each common segment, which themselves are maintained in the snippets/ subdirectory.

[% # vim:ts=2:sw=2:et:ai:sts=2:filetype=xhtml
META
  title = "Getting to DebConf10 via Amtrak"
  lang = "en"
%]

<h2>Getting to DebConf10 via Amtrak</h2>

<p>
In New York City, Amtrak stops at New York-Penn Station, station code NYP.
</p>

[% INCLUDE "directions/snippets/penn-116th.xhtml.$lang" %]
[% INCLUDE "directions/snippets/116th-mudd.xhtml.$lang" %]

The "title" line near the top is used as the page title. Except for the [% ... %] bits, this is standard XHTML.

Here's what the referenced snippets look like:

[edit] How you can contribute

If you're comfortable with Subversion and XHTML:

  • If you don't already have commit access to debconf-data, go to the Alioth project page and submit a request to join. If we are aware of your interest in helping, this will be approved. You will have to create a free Alioth account if you don't have one yet.
  • Check out the current copy of the directions part of the website:
svn co svn+ssh://youraliothaccount@svn.debian.org/svn/debconf-data/dc10/website/directions
  • Make your changes
  • Commit with an appropriate commit message, and wait 15 minutes for your changes to show up.

Otherwise, email your requested text additions or changes to debconf10-localteam@lists.debconf.org and someone will review and commit them.

You can access the Subversion repository in a read-only fashion here:
