[edit] San Francisco!
- Hub of the Universe (tm)
- Creative Commons is based in San Francisco!
- Under one million residents
- Two major international airport (SFO and SJC), less than an hour to get from the airport to the city via public transport
- Slightly longer flights for most Debian developers
- Currency is just as weak as NYC, but everything is cheaper and more vegan
- Small tourist spot, so you don't have to deal with 46 million other people
- BART goes until 12:30 am at some locations; buses go all night, and bicycles go really all night
- Very few taxis, but many homeless people and buses.
- Lots of delicious, delicious brunch options
- Many restaurants are open past 9PM!
- Multiple vegan ice cream shoppes! Lots of raw food shops.
- English and Spanish spoken everywarez.
- Huge geek community, both literally and figuratively
- Good restaurants always have enormous wait lines due to taking no reservations; this would provide ample bonding time
- All TEN fingerprints collected at the airport! http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0CWU/is_2008_Jan_24/ai_n24222005
- A couple of hostels on public transportation
- Possible summer conference housing at universities
- Many one-star hotels, especially in the Tenderloin
- also located near Nob Hill's four-star hotels, to allow "overflow" room
- Zeke's lap
- Parking is cheaper than in New York; and driving on San Francisco hills is an experience to behold! But why would you want to, given the plethora of the options above?
[edit] Many venue possibilities
- Stanford campus (user of Debian + AFS)
- Google (big user of Ubuntu, a derived distribution)
- Creative Commons offices, if no one is there for two weeks
[edit] "I don't want to go to the US!"
[edit] Border issues
- DHS <3s your laptop
[edit] US Election
- Babar is likely to win (citation needed), and while he has numerous flaws and is definitely a politician, his government would be friendlier to foreign tourists than Bush's.
[edit] Suck it up
- Ubuntu already did it, so it has to be good enough for Debian.
[edit] Local Team
- Lawrence Lessig
- Many other non-DD interested parties
