otherwise collaborate only remotely. Friendships are forged, and

friendships. But DebConf has also been described as a gigantic family reunion, 


who work together over the Internet throughout the re

DebConf is the Debian Developer Conference, which takes place in a different place on earth every year. Presentations, workshops, and round-table discussions make up a large part of the event, and

The world of software development has been changing over recent years. Industry is moving away from large corporations to smaller startups, and the way that individuals work also is changing - from centralised control to distributed locations and autonomy.

Of course, in the Free Software community, this is something we've been used to ever since Debian was founded 22 years ago. We understand the benefits that distributed collaboration can bring. Being able to welcome the contributions from anyone who has ideas, who has passion about bringing better software to people, or who can simply bring a different cultural viewpoint is hugely beneficial.

However, it does have drawbacks.
