[edit] Our weak points
- Munich:
- Three contractual partners (youth hostel, venue, catering);
- Venue status still not certain, negotiations are ongoing;
- 900m walking between youth hostel and venue;
- Venue not available 24 hours/day, youth hostel not ideal for socialising;
- Danger of groups splitting off and going to town towards the end of the day;
- Heidelberg:
- Venue not too small, but "snug";
- Network connection looks promising, but not finalised;
[edit] Their strong points
- Mechelen:
- Small town flair;
- Good-looking venue with food and night-life options nearby;
- Government backing; especially in a small town, this can mean a lot for the quality of the conference;
- FOSDEM organisers with a lot of conference experience, and probably backing by other (non-Debian) FOSDEM organisers if needed;
- Belgian chocolate;
- Some in our team think the availability of Belgian beer is a benefit; some in our team vehemently disagree.
