[edit] TALK MEISTER!

(a noble noble volunteer position)

We need folks to help make sure that talks go smoothly! As talk-meister, your responsibilities are as follows:

[edit] Talk Meister obligations

  • Let the speaker know they will have 45 minutes available for their talk, so that people (videoteam & attendees) have a moment to breathe and change rooms. This is important. All talks are 45 minutes. Show them the time signs before they start so they know what to expect.
  • Please tell the speaker that the projectors work best at 1024×768 resolution.
  • Introduce the speaker and the event (two or three sentences is fine -- ask them beforehand how to pronounce their name if you aren't sure).
  • Provide water to the speaker.
  • Recommend the speaker to switch off wireless or use cable to avoid "Connecting to wireless" windows popping up
  • Help with the question and answer session: remind the audience that they need to use the microphone because the session is being recorded, call on people, giving them the mic if needed. - Remind them to stand up and say their name.
  • Start on time, stop on time.
  • Let the speaker know when they have 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 minute and 0 minutes left, and enforce this. There will be time signs in each room.
  • If the videoteam needs you to delay the opening of the session because of any difficulties, inform the audience.
  • Thank the speaker at the end of the session.
  • At the end of your shift, bring the microphones and time signs back to the audio table.

[edit] Logistics for signing up

  • Look at the full schedule and decide what talks you would like to sign up for.
  • Sign up below. The talks are divided by day/date and room. If you find you need to cancel your volunteering, please e-mail the talks team so we know we need to find someone else.
